War & Emotions Symposium

Time is fast running out to register for the ‘War & Emotions’ symposium.

The speakers will include some of the most outstanding historians on the impacts of World War I in our time:

Keynotes Dr Michael Roper, University of Essex and Dr Tracey Loughran, Cardiff University; Professors Joy Damousi, Alistair Thomson, Peter Stanley, Andrea Witcomb, Bruce Scates and Barry Conyngham; Dr Marina Larsson, Dr Bart Ziino, Dr Kerry Neale and Dr Ross McMullin.

The symposium will explore new perspectives and understandings of the emotional and physical impacts of World War I, and how the war is remembered today. It will build on the themes of the highly-acclaimed World War I: Love & Sorrow exhibition at Melbourne Museum, which follows eight personal stories through the chronology of 1914–18 and into the long post-war years, revealing the tragic consequences of the war.

A broad range of delegates will contribute to lively and challenging discussions, including scholars, students, curators, veterans and families impacted by war.

The two-day symposium includes free entry to Melbourne Museum and the Love & Sorrow exhibition, refreshments, and an evening reception for speakers and delegates.
