Discovering History: Such Sweet Sorrow

The darker side of our chocolatiers and confectioners

Desiree Pettit-Keating (Bendigo Regional Archives Centre) explores both the bitter and the sweet in the world of chocolate and confectionery across the centuries in north-west Victoria. Uncover surprisingly tragic tales of lost loves, suspicious deaths, scandals, outrages, and intrigue.

Desiree is joined by Dr Emma Robertson (La Trobe University), author of Belles from Bournville and Beyond: Histories of Women Chocolate Workers in Australia and Chocolate, Women & Empire: A Social & Cultural History.

Includes chocolate demonstrations and tastings from Hayley Tibbett (Indulge Fine Belgian Chocolates) and Sue Schrieber (Choclartiste).

Join live at the library (limits apply) or on Zoom, or catch up later on YouTube.

Bookings are ESSENTIAL and should be made through the EventBrite link.
