Welcome to the HCV Book Club!

Exclusive to our Friends, book here for our April event with The Biscuit author, Lizzie Collingham.

What is both a tool of empire and a sweet indulgence? What is a cleanser of sins and the basis of beer brewing? Biscuits! Lizzie Collingham's history of 'a very British indulgence' continues her unique capacity to enrich our understanding of connections between food and change in world history. Her latest book on The Biscuit follows her earlier, much acclaimed books, Curry, The Taste of War, and Hungry Empire.
Join her at our first HCV Book Club, in conversation with David Lowe. There will be an opportunity for you ask questions, but we also welcome questions in advance, that David can put to Lizzie. Please add these by midday Tuesday 10 April here: https://forms.gle/iQxBCGNiymA3TV7eA

Summary

The HCV was formed as an advisory body in 2001 and incorporated in 2003. It comprises representatives from cultural and educational institutions and heritage bodies; history teachers and curriculum advisors; academic and professional historians; and local, Indigenous, community and specialist history organisations.

As the peak body for history, the HCV has both ‘outward-looking’ roles (including advocacy and representation to government and the wider community, consultation, community education, and networking with allied interest groups) and ‘inward-looking’ roles (including member support, information dissemination, and networking between members).
