Associate Professor Charles Fahey has taught history at La Trobe University since 1990. He has researched the history of regional Victoria for over 30 years. He has written extensively on farming and on the central goldfields. With Alan Mayne he published Gold Tailings: Forgotten Histories of Family and Community on the Central Victorian Goldfields (2010). He has also written extensively on the history of work in in Melbourne. His paper on work at the Guest biscuit making factory in North Melbourne (with Andre Sammartino) won the Sir Timothy Coghlan Prize for the best paper published in the Australian Economic History Review in 2013. With colleagues from La Trobe University and the University of WA he is currently writing an environmental history of Australia’s mallee landscapes.
