Carolyn Holbrook is associate professor in history in the Centre for Contemporary Histories at Deakin University. Her research spans a range of contemporary political, policy and cultural issues, including the post-1901 history of the Australian federation, the conceptual history of national security in Australia, the history of Medicare, cancer prevention and public health and the history of war memory and the Anzac legend. With James Walter, Carolyn is completing a history of political decision-making in Australia. A co-edited volume, Lessons from History: Leading Historians Tackle Australia’s Greatest Challenges was published by NewSouth in 2022. Carolyn is the Director of Australian Policy and History, which connects historical evidence to contemporary political and social issues.
